CHESTER — In honor of October being National Pork Month, the Illinois Pork Producers Association (IPPA) invited representatives to nominate a food pantry in their legislative district for a chance to receive 24 packages of shelf-stable bacon. State Representative David Friess (R-Red Bud) nominated Chester Area Christian Food Pantry which was selected as a winner.
“I was very glad to see Chester Area Christian Food Pantry selected as a winner. They work hard in providing an essential service to those in need in Chester and the surrounding area. Their charity is an asset to the community”, said Friess.
The Illinois Pork Producers Association began the “Pass the Bacon” campaign as a way to commemorate October as Pork Month, which marked the traditional time of year when hogs were sent to market. Today, as hogs are marketed all year round, October remains a time to celebrate pork producers and all they do.
“I want to thank the IPPA for hosting this campaign and their generous donation. I want to also thank the state’s many pork producers for all their hard work. And I want to thank everyone who helps out, donates, and volunteers at the Chester Area Christian Food Pantry and all the food pantries throughout the state,” concluded Rep. Friess.
