Ste. Genevieve relaxes mask policy

STE. GENEVIEVE — The Ste. Genevieve Board of Aldermen has decided to relax its mask policy.

At its meeting last night, the aldermen voted to make masks optional starting today.

COVID-19 numbers in the county have been declining. The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services reported 21 new confirmed and probable cases in the seven days ending October 11 for an average of three new cases a day.

The vaccination rate in Ste. Genevieve County is 42.3 percent.

The aldermen continued to discuss the issue of storm water run off during the public comment portion of the meeting and during the work session.

In other business, the aldermen approved the purchase of $7,991 worth of video surveillance equipment for the police department and $26,845.54 worth of computer equipment for the police department and city hall. The aldermen also approved a monthly $349 payment to Charter Communications – Spectrum Enterprise for an upgraded internet connection.

The aldermen also approved a change in the city’s reimbursement policy for sidewalk repair and replacement. The city will now pay 50 percent of the cost of sidewalk improvements up to a maximum of $750.

The aldermen gave first and second approval to a $149,694.42 payment to Donze Construction for the remodeling of the police department and basement.

One other measure was given final approval – it repeals and replaces a section of the city code regarding licenses.

The aldermen re-appointed Gina Bryant to the Ste. Genevieve Planning and Zoning Commission.

It also passed resolutions which: state intent of the city to apply for a grant from the Ste. Genevieve Municipal Band Grant Program for Rural Heritage Days.

An exception to a cemetery rule was granted.

A revised street closure request was approved for the Pecanapalooza event Saturday, November 6. Market Street will be closed between Third and Main Streets and Main Street will be closed from Market to South Gabouri Streets from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
