Schools prepare to launch ‘Red Ribbon Week’

STE. GENEVIEVE — Red Ribbon Week will be held the week of Oct. 25 in Ste. Genevieve County.

Last week, students from Ste. Genevieve County R-II School District and Valle Catholic met with Ste. Genevieve Mayor Paul Hassler, Chief of Police Eric Bennett and Sheriff Gary Stolzer to sign a proclamation declaring Oct. 23 – 31 to be Red Ribbon Week in Ste. Genevieve County. Schools throughout the county will observe Red Ribbon week the week of Oct. 25.

This year’s theme is “Drug Free Looks Like Me.”

Third grade, elementary and preschools and daycares will see presentations from the Ste. Genevieve Police Department and the Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the local K-9 units.

The ThinkFirst National Injury Prevention Foundation will present programs to high school students throughout the county.

This foundation creates education programs aimed at helping people learn to reduce their risk for injury. Their presentations share how an injury can change a person’s life forever and how important it is to make safe choices.

Middle school students will have the opportunity to hear speaker David Graham, a comedian who shares family-friendly comedy material and focuses on making good and safe life choices.

Ste. Genevieve County R-II schools will celebrate the theme through dress-up days.
