Educational opportunities at the Ste. Genevieve Art Center & Art Museum

STE. GENEVIEVE – The Ste. Genevieve Art Center and Art Museum has released its new schedule of workshops for kids, teens and adults.

Interested persons may sign up in person at the Sainte Genevieve Art Center & Art Museum at 310 Merchant Street between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturdays or Sundays and complete a registration form. They accept check, cash or credit.

Sign ups may also be accomplished by mail using the website www.artstegen.org under “Workshops” and print off a registration form. Mail it with your check payable to Sainte Genevieve Art Guild to SGAG, 310 Merchant Street, Ste. Gen, MO 63670. Mail early to reserve a place.

Please register for each class or workshop by one week before it begins to ensure we have available materials and space.

PROGRAMS FOR KIDS – $10 each

All supplies provided – Please dress for mess

Watercolor Winter Creek with Ellen Hahs Ages 9-12, maximum 8 Saturday, January 15 11am – 1pm

“We will create a 5×7” watercolor of a winter creek with evergreen and aspen trees, snowy hills by following step-by-step instructions.

Making Greeting Cards (2 weeks) with Iris Vincent Ages 7-12, maximum 10 Saturday, Jan 22 & Feb 5 9:30am – 12noon

“Learn a variety of ways to construct greeting cards for any season or occasion.”

Chinese New Year Dragon Hat with Peggy Bay Ages 6-12, maximum 12 Saturday, January 29 9am – 12noon

“We will create a three-dimensional dragon hat to celebrate the Chinese New Year using a variety of materials.”

Mosaic Picture Frame and Vase with Peggy Bay Ages 6-12, maximum 12 Saturday, February 12 9am – 12noon

“We will learn the art of mosaic while creating a mosaic picture frame and a vase with glass tiles, gobs and broken china pieces.”

African-themed Printmaking with Ellen Hahs Ages 6-10, maximum 6 Saturday, February 19 11am – 1pm

“We will create a print of colorful skies, dark silhouettes and patterns to celebrate Africa’s people, animals, environment and designs.”

Mexican Alebrujes Sculpture (2 weeks) with Peggy Bay Ages 6-12, maximum 12 Saturday, March 12 and 19 9am – 12noon

“We will create a Mexican-inspired wire and papier-mâché sculpture of a “magical” animal to be painted in elaborate color patterns.”

Under the Sea Clay Sculpture (2 weeks) with Peggy Bay Ages 6-12, maximum 12 Saturday, April 2 and 9 9am – 12noon

“We will create three-dimensional sea creatures using an armature of wood, cardboard and wire, and then sculpt in air-dry clay.

PROGRAM FOR TEENS – $10 each

All supplies provided – Maximum 8 students

Wire Tree Sculpture with Jeanne Phillips Ages 12-18 Mon, January 17 (MLK Day) 1-3pm

“We will create a twisted wire tree sculpture which will be mounted on stone or driftwood.” (Offered as part of the educational exchange program with the Mississippi Valley Art Guild in Chester, Ill.)

PROGRAMS FOR ADULTS – $25 each All supplies provided – Maximum 8 students

Watercolor Techniques with Iris Vincent Tue and Thurs, Feb 8, 10, 15 and 17 10:30am – 1pm

“This course builds on previous Beginning Watercolor course (but prior attendance is not required), with added instruction in painting skies, trees, leaves, grasses, etc.”

Beginning Painting with Acrylics with Peggy Bay Saturdays March 5, 12, 19 and 26 1:30 – 3:30pm

“For anyone who would like to learn how to paint — No painting experience necessary! We will learn about the properties of color, brush types, mediums, and basic compositional rules. One small painting will be completed each week.”

All workshops partially subsidized by a Bayer Rural Fund Community Arts Program Grant
