A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 13, 2024 for 70-year-old Jonathan Ray Berner of Chester, Illinois, who passed away Saturday, March 9, 2024 at his residence.
He was born December 24, 1953 in Belleville, Illinois, a son of Edward James and Shirley Eline (nee Harris) Berner who preceded him in death.
He married Susan Berner on April 20, 1973 in Cutler, Illinois; she survives in Chester.
He is also survived by three children: Angela Mohring of Red Bud, Ill., Joshua (Bethany) Berner of Chester, Ill., and Jason (Jaymee) Berner of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; seven grandchildren: Rachel, Jordan, Cameron, Jaron, Audrey, Alec and Braylee; a great granddaughter: Alexis and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers: Joel and Paul Berner.
He worked as a carpenter for the Monsanto Company for 16 years.
Jonathan was of the Baptist faith.
He saw combat while serving in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.
Jonathan was well known for his colorful story telling, words of wisdom and being an all around lovable character.
He enjoyed playing pool and spending time with his family.
Although he and his pain are gone, he will not be forgotten.
