CHESTER – The Chester High School Lady Jacket Volleyball Team traveled to Red Bud Thursday September 7 to take on the Lady Musketeers in a Cahokia Conference Illinois Division match.
The Jackets lost at Carlyle Tuesday September 6 and Coach Colleen Runge was expecting her Lady Jackets to come to Red Bud ready to recover and play hard. Runge said, “After coming off a tough loss last night at Carlyle, these girls were ready to GO tonight.”
The Jackets had a few miscues in Set No. 1, falling to the Lady Musketeers, 14-25. In the second set, senior Mabry Wingerter had several huge serves to keep the Jackets in the game. After getting on track, Chester sailed to a smooth, 25-15 win to even the record at 1-1.
CHS and RBHS then faced off to break the tie and determine the winner in Set 3. Coach Runge said, “The 3rd set was an all-out defensive brawl! We had some big digs and were able to put the game away. Sophomore Maggie Caby, who plays in the middle, was on fire both swinging and blocking.”
The Lady Jackets held on to win the third set and the match, 25-23. The Jackets improved to 7-2 with the win.
