PERRYVILLE, Mo. –The Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland proudly recognizes Elsie Moran, Lux Meyer, Vivienne Kiefer, Cara Leible, Harper Kirn, Samantha Zoellner, Carley Fulford and Clara Allen of Troop 72067 as members of the 2024 Girl Scout Bronze Award class.
These Girl Scouts earned the highest award for Junior Girl Scouts, the Bronze Award. Bronze Award Girl Scouts team up with other Girl Scouts in their troop and make positive impacts on our local communities.
For their Bronze Award Project, Troop 72067 organized a 29-day “Leap into Reading Challenge” to increase literacy and a love of reading in local youth. The girls kicked off their project with a literacy event where they read books and discussed their purpose to their community. They then asked local children ages 4-11 to take the Leap Challenge and read 29 minutes a day for all 29 days in the month of February. At the end of February, they invited participants back to share their reading log sheets in exchange for a free book.
Together, these girls brought their community together to support their mission of increasing literacy in local youth. When reflecting on their project, they said they gained people skills and learned that helping people in the community can be fun. They also said this project, “… showed me that a lot of people like to read,”, and “I could run a business.”
