Mercy Perry caregivers give back to community

PERRYVILLE – Last week, Mercy Perry caregivers participated in the annual Mercy Week of Service by giving back to other organizations in our community.

Each year, Mercy commemorates the lifelong service of Sr. Mary Roch Rocklage to Mercy’s ministry.

This tradition began in 2023 after Sr. Roch’s passing as a way to commemorate her service and her birthday on March 5.

This year, Mercy Perry volunteered their time in a variety of ways:

  • Sponsored and volunteered at the veterans’ breakfast at Missouri’s National Veterans Memorial

  • Hosted an ice cream social for residents at Independence Health System

  • Sponsored and volunteered for BINGO at the Perry County Senior Center

  • Collected more than 320 birthday cake kit donations from our own caregivers and distributed to local organizations including three local food pantries, The Jeremiah Center, Perry County Head Start, Options for Women, and a food pantry in Bollinger County.

  • Prepared and donated care packages for Confirmation candidates and unhoused individuals in Perry County

  • Hosted and volunteered a mobile food distribution event for those in need

  • Donated Love and Logic Parenting curriculum to the Perry County Joint Justice Center
