County commission votes to evict critters squatting in the courthouse

STE. GENEVIEVE — The Ste. Genevieve County Commission has voted to hire a professional to eliminate what it is calling a critter issue in the courthouse, the adjacent chamber of commerce building and the old museum building, now occupied by the Ste. Genevieve Art Guild.

The action was taken during the May 25 commission meeting.

The minutes of the meeting report the commissioners hired Trapper Joe’s Nuisance Wildlife Control of Hillsboro. The commissioners voted unanimously to pay Trapper Joe a nearly $20,000 down payment to begin to eliminate the critters humanely. Trapper Joe’s total estimate is $56,743.33.

Presiding County Commissioner Randy Ruzicka says there are birds, bats, squirrels and remnants of other animals in the building.

Trapper Joe will first get rid of the critters and then seal the holes where they have been getting in.

Ruzicka said Trapper Joe will get started sometime this month.
