Softball

Valle wins first ever state softball title

 

STE. GENEVIEVE – Valle beat Concordia 2-1 in nine innings to win the Class 1 state softball title.

 

This is the first state title for the program!

 

CHESTER – Members of the Chester High School softball team were presented with post-season awards recently.

 

Chester High School senior Emma Eggemeyer is the Lady Jackets Softball Most Valuable Player of 2023.  Eggemeyer has been recruited and signed to play at Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri next year. She is the daughter of Amy and Aaron Eggemeyer of Chester.

Kinsli McCartney was presented with the 2023 Lady Jacket Team Leadership Award.

Elaina Lutman, a Chester High School Softball player, was announced as the winner of the 2023 “Hustle Award”.

Kourtney Welten was announced as the “Most Improved Player”

 

The awards were Monday at an end of the year gathering of coaches and players at CHS.

Coach Ryan Petrowske made the presentations after uniforms had been collected and accounted for.

 

Track and Field

CHESTER – In Illinois: Chester’s Lannin Caron qualified in the pole vault and Gabe Steele in the high jump for the boys state track meet this week.

 

STE. GENEVIEVE – The Ste. Genevieve Dragons are sending the following track and field athletes to the state meet:

 

Girls:

Kale Clements – 400m and 800m
Savannah Jerman – 200m
Hollyn Zangaro – 3200m
Kiara Asher – high jump
Abigail Merklin – triple jump
Kayden Huck -100m and 300m hurdles
Alissa Grass – javelin
Jamison Kemper – shotput

4×200, 4×400 and 4×800 meter relays

Boys:
Paul Taylor – shotput and javelin
Ayden Butcher – pole vault

 

PERRYVILLE – Perryville High School is sending one athlete to the state track and field meet:

Ellie Gerler will compete in the shotput.

 

Soccer

JACKSON – Saxony Lutheran plays Metro Saturday in the Class 1 State Tournament at Saxony..

 

PERRYVILLE – St. Vincent play Ursuline Academy in the Class 3 State Tournament Saturday in Perryville.

 

Baseball

CHESTER — Three members of the Chester Yello Jacket baseballl team have been named to the Cahokia Conference All-Conference Team for the 2023 season.

 

They are: Matt James, a senior; Chance Mott, a senior; and Evan Dunning, a sophomore.

 

The Yellow Jackets finished the season with a 7-3 record.
