Steve Deterding

A funeral will be held Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023 for 71-year-old Steve Deterding of Prairie du Rocher, Illinois, who passed away at 12:05 a.m., Thursday, February 9, 2023 at Freeburg Care Center, Freeburg, Illinois.

 

He was born September 5, 1951 in Red Bud, son of the late Carl and Mabel (nee Franklin) Deterding of  Illinois.

 

Steve married Paulette Stirnaman August 9, 1975 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Red Bud, Illinois; she survives.

 

He had worked at Kellogg Coal Dock for 15 years and then as an operator at the Kaskaskia Lock and Dam for 22 years. Steve was also an EMT and volunteer fireman for the Prairie du Rocher Fire Department.

 

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prairie du Rocher, Illinois and served as President on the Parish Council. He was also the chairman for the St. Joseph Catholic Church Picnic for many years and served St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery Committee. He also was a member of the Chester Non-High Board. Steve had been a Scoutmaster and Khoury League coach.

 

Steve was a wonderful woodworker, but his biggest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.

 

He is survived by his wife: Paulette Deterding of Prairie du Rocher, Ill.; three children: Alex (Jennifer) Deterding of Red Bud, Ill., Carrie (Matt) Laur Freeburg, Ill. and Greg (Brittni) Deterding of Columbia, Ill.; two sisters: Nancy (Jim) Davison of Sparta, Ill. and Betty Myers of Red Bud, Ill.; eight grandchildren: Claire, Ava and Blake Deterding, Ty, Annabelle and Grady Laur and Georgia and Amity Deterding; mother-in-law: Doris Kloepper of Red Bud, Ill.; two brothers-in-law:

Dave (Patti) Stirnaman Waterloo, Ill. and Steve (Kay) Stirnaman of Ruma, Ill.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends/.

 

He was also preceded in death by: parents and father-in-law: Donald Stirnaman.

 

A Memorial Mass for 71-year-old Steve Deterding of Prairie du Rocher will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, February 16, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prairie du Rocher, Illinois, with

Fr. Sebastian Ukoh, officiating.

 

Inurnment will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Prairie du Rocher, Ill.

 

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Pechacek Funeral Home in Red Bud, Illinois and

9-10 a.m. Thursday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prairie du Rocher, Illinois.

 

Memorials may be made to the ALS Association or to Masses for St. Joseph Catholic Church
