John F. Hoog

John F Hoog, 76 years old, of Seoul, South Korea, died Sunday, Nov 6, 2022 at home in Seoul.

 

He was born January 2, 1946 in St. Louis, MO.

 

He is survived by his wife, Jessie Joo; daughters (with ex-wife Elizabeth Kahn): Genevieve (Tim) Ellerbee of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Rebecca (Chris) Shelton of Fairfax, VA; stepchildren: David-Victor K. Lee of Bloomington, IN; and Eva Lee of Seoul, South Korea; grandchildren Cecilia and Genevieve Shelton; siblings: Jane (Jim) Herz of Shrewsbury, MO; Marilyn (Ed) Tenholder of St. Louis; Jerry Hoog of Ste. Genevieve, MO; Steve Hoog (fiancé Jennifer Hampsten) of Millstadt, Illinois.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Urban and Martha Hoog of Ste. Genevieve.

 

John was a 1963 graduate of Valle High School and 1967 graduate of University of Missouri Columbia, earning a degree in journalism.

 

He also completed Air Force ROTC training and received a commission as a second lieutenant.

 

After serving in the US Air Force, where he earned the rank of captain, he began his career in the

Foreign Service of the US Department of State.

 

He served in locations throughout southeast Asia.

 

He and his wife lived in Seoul following his retirement.
