Crash kills three persons, including a Ste. Genevieve resident

JEFFERSON CITY — Three persons died in a one-vehicle traffic crash on I-55 in Scott County Saturday night.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports those who died in the crash were: 20-year-old Andrew Marzuco of Ste. Genevieve, 19-year-old Mallory Carter of Brighton, Illinois and 20-year-old Audrey Smith of Bridgeton, Mo.

They were pronounced at the scene by the Scott County Coroner Scott Branam.

Three others were  injured: 22-year-old Grace Makowski of St. Louis had moderate injuries and 20-year-old Maria Marzuco of Ste. Genevieve (Andrew’s twin sister) and 24-year-old Katherine Nations of Chesterfield had minor injuries.

The injured persons were taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

The patrol says the crash happened when a northbound 2002 Ford F150 driven by Smith swerved to miss an animal on the road, ran off the roadway and struck a tree.

The patrol could not determine if Smith was buckled up, but all of the passengers were wearing their seat belts.
