Local air quality remains good

PERRYVILLE – The Southeast Missouri Regional Planning Commission Executive Director  Jeremy Tanz has released the latest air quality readings through August 28th.

Tanz said ozone levels in the local area have stabilized since mid-July, but that cannot be said for Missouri as a whole.

He said, statewide there were six additional exceedances in ozone readings between the St. Louis and Kansas City areas.  This brings the total for the season in the state to 18 so far this season.

Due to an issue with this week’s ozone report the typical four highest reading page is not available.

Looking at the data itself there is no change in those readings from the previous July report.  In fact the highest reading from July 18 – August 28 was on the Bonne Terre monitor at 63 ppb, which ties the previous fourth highest reading.  The Farrar monitor was even better with a highest reading of 59 ppb on two separate days.

According to the Air Quality Index, the region experienced 11 days in the month of July in the yellow “Moderate” range.  August has been much better with only the Bonne Terre recording ozone levels in that range on two separate days.  This is a good trend as we are leaving the hottest part of the summer and moving toward the cooler temps of fall.
