2022 Summer Reading Program comes to an end

STE. GENEVIEVE – Ste. Genevieve County Library ended its Summer Reading Program with a bang Saturday, July 30th.

This year’s theme “Beyond the Beaten Path” focused on books with a camping/outdoor feel.

Besides reading, the Library hosted over 20 different programs which saw 500 patrons over the course of the summer.

Of course, most of these programs required financial support. While the Library has a line item for this program in its budget, it tends to only cover basic supplies. That is why sponsorships are so important to the summer reading program.

“Without our sponsors, some of our biggest events would not have been possible,” Library Director Shawn Long said.

Sponsors for Summer Reading include: 3 Sugars Baking LLC, Army Painter, Bloomsdale Bank, The Center for French Colonial Life, Citizens Electric, Creek Girls, Jean Johnson, Kona Ice of Mid-Mississippi Valley, Miniature Market, River Rapids Water Park and Wegmann Law Firm.

In all, 312 participants read over 17,612 books in 299,138 minutes.

“This is by far the largest turnout we’ve seen since I’ve been the director” Shawn stated “Lindsey, Kim, and Abbey are a huge asset for our library and our community. They made many of our patrons favorite programs a reality.”
