Mo State Rep. Ann Wagner comments on multi-trillion dollar reconciliation bill

Washington, D.C.  – Congresswoman Ann Wagner (R-MO), Chair of the House Suburban Caucus, released the following statement after she voted against House Democrats’ multi-trillion dollar reconciliation bill:

“I speak with families in my district each day, and the facts are that prices on everything Missourians buy, from milk, to a gallon of gas, to a new television, have skyrocketed because of Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi’s reckless government spending, leading to massive supply chain and labor shortages that are crippling small businesses and hurting families across the country.  When families in St. Louis can’t find a turkey for Thanksgiving, a Christmas present for their kids, when the new sofa they ordered in June won’t arrive till 2022, and when the line to check out at Target is an hour long because of labor shortages, the last thing they want is trillions in new government spending for cradle to grave government control of every facet of their lives.  (The) latest Democrat spending spree will do nothing to solve the economic crises affecting American families and businesses, and will only lead to higher inflation and increased shortages of everyday goods.

“Instead of enacting commonsense, bipartisan policies to combat these issues, Democrats chose to pass a multi-trillion dollar progressive package of Green New Deal policies that will increase costs for middle-class families, perpetuate labor shortages, weaken our nation’s borders, give massive tax cuts to millionaires and billionaires, and even opens the door to taxpayer funded abortion.  Instead of helping Main Street America, Democrats in Congress have shown how completely out of touch they are with the key issues facing Missourians, and have relinquished power to the most radical progressives in their party.

“I will keep up the fight to lower costs for Missouri families, help reduce labor shortages and get people back to work, and fight against partisan policies that will only serve to further inflame the numerous crises stoked by President Biden and the Democrats.”
