Preschoolers learn about fire safety

STE. GENEVIEVE – Ste. Genevieve Elementary School preschool learned about fire prevention and firefighters’ work recently.

Preschool children enjoying the firefighters’ visit (back row, from left) Paige Clayton, Jadyn Renaud, Joseph Chimento, Charley Weber, Chase Ellett, Holden Basler, Jayci Sauer, Waylon Kreitler, Tucker Weibrecht, Leo Horstmann, Alan Schilli; (front row) JoLynn Koetting, Gage Fallert, Eleanor Ullman, Judah Kingery, Sloane Basler, Piston Davis, Jemma Pickard, Maelyn Lurk, Collin Fallert, and Owen Jokerst.

Sara Carlson and Alan Schilli from the Ozora Fire Department visited the preschoolers to read a story and discuss ways the children could stay safe if a fire broke out in their home or another building.

Alan, dressed in turnout gear, explained the importance of each item he put on. The children witnessed a firefighter up close dressed in all his gear and knew he was friendly and there to save their lives if ever in a fire.  The students also took a look at all the equipment found in a fire truck and discussed the uses of some of the tools.
